More About The Haka Workshop
The Haka is a cultural Maori tribal dance that is best known for being performed by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team prior to international matches. As a conference energiser it is a fun, empowering and uplifting activity that can be done with any sized group as an ice breaker, after lunch or finale event. It is ideal for uniting and motivating delegates and the Haka incorporates many traditional conference themes such as Passion, Working Together, One Team, First Class, Unity and Strength.
Delegates are taught the Haka move by move and sound by sound in an engaging and energetic way. The session starts with a warm up and then the Haka is demonstrated live. A PowerPoint presentation has the words on the screen, which are explained and then learned in a fun way using call and response.
The actions are then gone through slowly, with a lot of humour but also with explanations and respect to the cultural provenance.
To finish off the words and actions are put together, with a rousing and uplifting finale in which everyone is exhilarated and motivated as a unified and highly galvanised team…
